The winger, 25, joined Caps during the latter part of last season after a spell in Hungary.

The 5ft 7in Canadian played 13 games last term – scoring four goals – and is delighted to be back in Edinburgh as part of player-coach Michal Dobron’s reshaped squad. He said: “I love the city. There is unfinished business for me in Edinburgh and I know I can be even more productive on the big Murrayfield ice pad than last season. I told (general manager) Scott Neil that I want to help to help the club make the play-offs. The club has recruited well. I know my place in the plan, and I am looking forward to next season.”

Neil said: “This year, we’ve had a very deliberate recruitment approach. Garrett has proven that he is very effective on our big ice. His speed allows him to make life difficult for opposition defenses. He’s dynamic, quick and his size makes him elusive. We think he’ll put up a lot of points next year. He wanted to return and he kept pushing for an opportunity to return. We want players who want to be here, so we are pleased to have reached an agreement with him.”
