Edinburgh curlers win Latvian Cup
Murrayfield curlers Gina Aitken and Bruce Mouat put down a marker for this month's World Mixed Doubles Championship in Sweden by winning the Latvian Cup in Riga yesterday.
The Scots lost 7-6 to Russia’s Anastasia Bryzgalova and Alexey Krushelnitskiy on Saturday, but back-to-back victories over two Chinese pairs set up a rematch in yesterday’s final.
Aitken and Mouat took handsome revenge on the Russians, picking up four stones at the fourth end to lead 7-1 before wrapping up a morale-boosting 8-2 win less than a fortnight before they go for world gold and Olympic qualifying points in Karlstad.
