Monarchs bosses have told company owners Eddie and Norma McKenna that they felt their sponsorship had run its course.

Monarchs chairman Alex Harkess said: “Both parties mutually agreed it was time to move on and that’s all I wish to say on the matter.”

The severing of ties with Border Roofing comes amid rumours that previous long-time sponsors Scotwaste are considering supporting Monarchs again. Harkess said: “I don’t know anything about that, although we have always remained good friends with Scotwaste.”

Given the losses Monarchs made this season, their decision to ditch Border Roofing, who ploughed a five-figure sum into the club, might be seen as surprising. Asked if Monarchs had anyone else waiting in the wings to take over, Harkess replied: “I’m fairly confident we will have new sponsorship in place before the start of next season.”
