Euan McIntosh's Eisenhower Trophy snub branded '˜shambles'

Euan McIntosh has been in brilliant form

The 49-year-old has been overlooked for the Eisenhower Trophy event at Carton House despite winning the Scottish Amateur Championship at Blairgowrie then retaining the Amateur Gold Medal at Leven Links in the space of eight days.

The three spots have gone instead to players both younger than McIntosh and also higher than the Turnhouse player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

Royal Wimbledon’s Ryan Lumsden qualified automatically as the highest-ranked Scottish amateur in 85th spot.

The 21-year-old will be joined in trying regain a prize Scotland won in Australia a decade ago by Barassie 22-year-old Euan Walker and 20-year-old Nairn player Sandy Scott.

Walker and Scott are 185th and 222nd respectively in the world rankings while McIntosh jumped 220 spots to 325th on the back of his Scottish title triumph in Perthshire.

“Still the same nonsense re selection happening more than 20 years since I was playing,” wrote Michael Brooks, who won the Scottish Amateur at Dunbar in 1996, on Twitter. “Shambles, a weakened team without Euan.”

The decision was also slammed by former Dalmahoy director of golf Alan Tait, who beat McIntosh in the final of the Scottish Boys at Dunbar in 1986.
