Oliphant quickly confirmed that he had recovered from Thursday’s tough Pearl Izumi Series race in Edinburgh and was well to the fore throughout the 84 mile event, and he displayed his experience, crossing the line ahead of his Team Raleigh-GAC team-mate Craig Wallace to reclaim the title he had surrendered 12 months ago. John Archibald (Pro Vison) completed the podium.

Former City of Edinburgh rider Eileen Roe, now riding for the Belgian outfit Lares-Waowdeals, capped a busy week in the saddle with a dominant showing in the women’s event.

She had taken the honours in the opening round of the women’s Matrix Fitness Series in Motherwell last Tuesday. And she was back collecting medals after sprinting home at the finish of the 42 mile event nine seconds clear of Israeli international Shani Bloch-Davidov (Pedal Power), with Genevieve Whitson (Isorex) – a New Zealander now based in Edinburgh and qualified to compete for Scotland – in third spot, a further 12 seconds down.
