Fenwick in touch with leader Isaacs

DUNBAR’S Neil Fenwick had the leader in his sights heading into today’s second round of the Scottish Young Professionals’ Championship at West Lothian.

On a difficult opening day, Fenwick limited the damage to a two-over-par 73 to sit in a tie for second, three shots behind pace-setter Malcolm Isaacs.

Fenwick, who finished third in last week’s Northern Open, had a roller-coaster round, his card consisting of a cocktail of birdies and bogeys to sit alongside Crieff’s Sam McLaren.

Isaacs produced an outstanding effort in the windy conditions to grab the lead in the 72-hole event. The Nairn Dunbar trainee pro had birdies at the third, 12th and 14th before dropping shots at the 15th and 16th.

The latter proved a nightmare for most players in the field, with West Linton’s Gareth Wright running up a triple- bogey 7 there in his 74.

Despite that, he was still lying handily-placed in a share of fourth along with defending champion David Patrick and Michelle Thomson.
