Final agony for students

Britain’s bid for gold in the football final of the World University Games fell agonisingly short when they went down 2-0 to Japan in Shenzhen, China.

With Edinburgh University’s James Craigen and Spartans’ Gavin Malin in the side, the team which knocked Brazil out on penalties in the semi-final lost out to a superb lob from Akito Kawamoto in the first half before Kazuya Yamamura stretched the Japan lead with a 58th-minute penalty.
