Fishing round-up

FRANDY, Gleneagles: All areas of the loch are fishing well and the best catching flies and lures have included the Kate McLaren, Sedge Muddlers, Cormorants and the Sedgehog.

Jock McKenzie from Edinburgh kept eight fish for 28lb, James Falconer, Polmont six for 18lb 8oz, Paul Langley & party, Carlisle caught and released 13 and Richard Jackson, Perth kept two for 7lb and released four. Willie Johnson from Bannockburn had two for 7lb and released one and John Philliban, Stenhousemuir took two fish for 8lb 4oz and released seven. Again the clubs were out in force with the Loch Laggan FFC keeping seven fish for 13lb 8oz, Falkirk Municipal A/C 27 fish for 80lb 8oz, Glasgow Academicals seven fish for 30lb 2oz and Tullibole A/C kept 13 fish weighing 36lb 12oz. Seafield A/C took eight fish for 25lb 12oz, Kelty Artisan 16 for 44lb 4oz, Perth War Memorial A/C kept ten for 26.12 and the Ladies Invicta Club had two for 6lb 14oz.

MARKLE, East Lothian: C. Pollock from Edinburgh used a Black & Green lure to bag a 16lb 9oz rainbow which was the heaviest of the week and Gordon Dagg from Pathhead was not far behind with a fine 16lb fish on a Snatcher – he also took a 4lb brown trout on a Hopper. John McDonald from Edinburgh returned a 4lb 8oz brown trout that took a Hare’s Ear, George Liddle, Dunbar, used a Yellow Dancer to take an 11lb 8oz rainbow and Peter Dickson, Northumberland, had three for 14lb, best 9lb on a WSW. Alan Cameron from Tranent caught three for 13lb 12oz on Buzzers and D. McCann, Edinburgh, took one at 9lb 8oz on a Buzzer.

MORTON LOCH, Livingston: It was another great week with some superb catches coming off including Bob Dillon from the Post Office AC who had four for 14lb 6oz on various lures and his colleague B.T. Wilson who used a Montana to catch four for 13lb 5oz. Tam Duncan from Broxburn had a 9lb brown trout (returned) on a Hopper, George Bain, Kirknewton, had four for 15lb 5oz on a Sedge and Billy Lennon, Livingston, took four for 11lb 4oz. Pentcaitland AC took 53 fish weighing 132lb and the Perth Anglers AC had 22 fish for 46lb 8oz and returned a further 20.

ORCHILL LOCH, Braco: There has been some great sport enjoyed on the dries again with such an abundance of natural fly life on the water. The Perthshire Fishing Club had a good day taking 25 fish for 75lb 12oz with the heaviest basket being caught by W. Parnell with four fish for 15lb 8oz. Keith Barson from London had six fish for 16lb on the dry fly, Anne Orr, Tullibody, two for 8lb on Dries, William Cowie, Airdrie, two for 8lb on a Claret Snatcher and Johnny Weir, Airdrie, two for 6lb on a Snatcher. Andy Airnes from Clackmannan took four for 13lb 6oz on an Orange Fritz, Billy Weir, Bannockburn, four for 12lb on an Diawl Bach, Jimmy Young, Alloa, two for 8lb on a Damsel, John Beatson, Sauchie, two for 7lb on a Damsel, A. Morrison, Braco, one for 4lb on a White Lure and Douglas Morrison from Falkirk used a Hopper to take a brace weighing 9lb 4oz. Bud from Alloa took two fish for 6lb on Yellow Dancer, John Leckie, Alloa, two for 6lb on a Yellow Dancer and David Black from Lochgelly caught two fish for 6lb 8oz on a Bibio.

SWANSWATER, Stirling: Despite the heavy rain last week the water remains clear and fresh with only a little colour in the burn mouth which quickly disappeared. Fish were well spread out round the ponds and were being caught in all areas. Favourite patterns through the week were Damsel, Cruncher, Diawl Bach, Bloodworm, Buzzer, Kate McLaren, Bibio, Butcher, Hopper and Spider. The small ponds continue to fish well and are providing anglers with some excellent sport. The multi-coloured fish continue to show themselves well and are causing a lot of interest, and frustration amongst those trying to hook them. Michael Williams, Alloa, took the biggest fish of the week in his bag of two for 10lb including an 8lb Blue and a Brown, Peter Johnson, Glasgow, three for 11lb 4oz including a 6lb 8oz Rainbow and a Blue, Stewart Nicholson, Knightswood, ten for 24lb 12oz, in two visits, including seven Blues and Danny Doherty, Denny, five for 13lb 4oz including two Blues. Robert McDonald, Glasgow, five for 12lb including three Tigers and a Brown, Archie Smith, Ardrossan, four for 8lb 8oz including a Blue, two Tigers and a Gold from the Millpond, Jim Denny, Dunipace, three for 10lb including a Blue and Yvonne Hutton, Edinburgh, three Tigers for 8lb. Davy Neilson, Carronshore, three Blues for 8lb, Les Cooper, Dunblane, two Blues for 6lb, Stewart Malcolm, Denny, two for 5lb 12oz including a Blue and a Brown and seven members of the Cygnets Junior Angling Club, fishing their regular Sunday morning class, landed ten fish from the Millpond for 18lb 8oz including three Blues and four Tigers.
