Florence and Hounslow into last four

Edinburgh’s David Florence and Englishman Rich Hounslow eased through to today’s C2 semi-finals at the World Canoe Slalom Championships in Bratislava yesterday.

The 2010 bronze medallists were finally back on the water after strong winds cancelled racing on Wednesday and Thursday, and they went sixth-quickest on the first run in 102.84 seconds.

Their second attempt was faster, but was spoiled by a missed gate, leaving them eighth overall but well inside the top 20 qualifiers. Aberdeen’s Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott also progressed in 16th place. “Times seemed a little quicker today although we were two-tenths slower,” said Hounslow. “But we’re safely through to the semi-finals.”

Florence was due to contest the C2 semis and final this morning, followed by the C1 heats in the afternoon.
