Amateurs: Meadowbank Wednesday show steel in cup tie with Duddingston

Meadowbank Wednesday won 4-2 to progress to the last 16

Meadowbank Wednesday are through to the last-16 of the Energywise Sports East District Cup after they beat Sunday Afternoon Amateur opponents Duddingston

Athletic 4-2.

Home club Meadowbank were on it from the off and opened the scoring after 20 minutes when their top goalscorer Joe Turner-Law’s strike wasn’t dealt with by the visiting Duddingston goalkeeper and Adam Tait took full advantage as he knocked in the rebound.

The visitors pulled a goal back through Chris Scott ten minutes later when he netted after being put through one-on-one, however, Duddingston weren’t level for long as just two minutes later Daniel Bissett played the ball through for Tait who squeezed the ball through the keeper’s legs.

Tait went on to complete his hat-trick when he nodded in a Bissett corner-kick, before Duddingston hit back again through James Woodhouse with ten minutes of the tie remaining.

Any Duddingston hopes of levelling the match were wrecked when Turner-Law crossed in for Jordan McNeill who hit the back of the net to make sure of their passage into the next round.

Elsewhere, Edinburgh Caledonian also progressed after they came out the right side of a ten-goal thriller with Oxgangs Trinity, winning 6-4. Corstorphine Dynamo were also victorious as they beat Bathgate Thistle 3-0 on home soil. Danderhall Miners secured just their second win of their Saturday’s Premier Division campaign as they held on for a 4-3 victory at home to Clermiston Star after leading 3-0.

Darren Anderson struck a lethal double for the home side, his first coming on the break when he found the net from a tight angle and his second on the back of a Clermiston

defensive error.

Danderhall were cruising when Kyle Baker made it three after Grant McMillan played him in, but two quick-fire goals from the visitors ensured Clermiston were still well in the match going into the second half.

Anderson would secure his hat-trick five minutes after the interval when he found the top corner from the edge of the box. Clermiston cut the deficit once more though, and with time to spare, but Danderhall defended well to avoid an equaliser being conceded.

Tollcross Thistle are in the hat for the third round of RJM Sports East of Scotland Cup after their 5-2 defeat of Grangemouth.

Hosts Tollcross breezed past their opponents in the opening 30 minutes with goals from Phil Blakey, Stewart O’Neill and Lee Edwardson.

Grangemouth would pull a goal back early in the second half, but Sam Thompson restored their three goal advantage when he skipped past two defenders and placed a shot into the visiting net.

Chris Cairns made it five after completing a move which he started from his own

half, before Grangemouth pulled a further goal back.
