October 26, 2014 v Hearts: Opener in the derby

Hearts pitched up to Easter Road in last season’s Championship unbeaten and in a boisterous mood. That aura was popped, to a certain extent, when Malonga ended a spot of pinball in the Jambos’ box with a rasping strike from eight yards out that almost took Neil Alexander’s net off. Easter Road exploded with so much pent-up jubilation of a goal against their nearest rivals. In the end, Alim Ozturk’s 40-yard equaliser eclipsed Malonga’s goal, but the Congolese’s strike won’t be forgotten by those in green. It turned out to be his only derby goal.

November 22, 2014 v Dumbarton: Howitzer in hat-trick against Sons

Malonga showed just how classy a player he was when he bagged a treble away at Dumbarton. It was his second goal that was a real gem, though, effortlessly pinging the ball into the top corner from 25 yards. A magnificent strike to cap off a memorable afternoon for the striker.

September 23, 2015 v Aberdeen: Stunning solo strike to down Dons

In our opinion, Malonga’s best Hibs goal. The Hibees led the then-unbeaten Dons 1-0 in the League Cup and were clinging on to a slender lead. The ball fell to Malonga inside his own half and, with very little support, in his own languid style he sashayed his way towards the Aberdeen goal, beating three defenders before coolly despatching the ball past Danny Ward. A quite wonderful goal.

If the Aberdeen goal was Malonga’s best, then this one against Queens at the tail-end of last year was the most important. With Hibs knowing that a win would draw them level with Rangers at the summit of the Championship, Malonga got on the end of David Gray’s 94th-minute cross to power a diving header into the net. Time will tell just how important that goal may be for Hibs in the title race.

January 9, 2016 v Raith: Cup scorcher at Stark’s Park

This turned out to be Malonga’s last goal in a Hibs shirt and it certainly wasn’t a bad way to sign off. A dreary Scottish Cup tie had only just stirred into life with Hibs taking the lead until Malonga decided to double their advantage by picking the ball up, turning towards the Raith goal and thrashing a shot into Kevin Cuthbert’s net.
