Billy impact thrills Butch

Inverness manager Terry Butcher is happy to have a selection dilemma up front following Billy McKay’s encouraging first start for the club.

McKay showed some good touches in the centre-forward role as Caley got off the bottom of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League table with a 2-1 victory at St Mirren Park on Saturday.

The former Northern Ireland Under-21 internationalist had previously made just two substitute appearances after recovering from the ankle injury he suffered in his first training session after joining from Northampton in the summer. But Butcher believes the 23-year-old is now ready to challenge six-goal Gregory Tade.

Butcher, whose side host Dundee United on Saturday, said: “Billy’s not had much chance but he’s worked hard and when he scored two goals in a friendly with Ross County last midweek I decided to put him in against St Mirren. I felt the time was right to freshen things up front.”
