The match had been switched to New Dundas Park after Broughty’s Whitton Park ground was deemed unplayable.

“We had to grind out a result as they are a good side,” said Rose manager Robbie Horn. “Sometimes you can’t play good passing football and I told the players that at half-time. It’s then you have to work and work hard to get a result and we had to do that. It wasn’t pretty but there were some good football as well, especially our last goal.”

There were no goals in the opening 45 minutes but Bonnyrigg had the edge over their Angus rivals. However, within five minutes of the restart, they took the lead.

Ruraidh Donaldson sent over a low cross from the left wing that beat the Broughty defence before landing at the feet of Wayne McIntosh, who controlled the ball before stabbing home.

Now in control, Bonnyrigg pressed hard to add to their tally and it duly arrived eight minutes later from the penalty spot.

McIntosh again drove into the penalty box and was upended by Jon Smart. A penalty was awarded and Dean Hoskins stepped up to smash the ball into the net to double Bonnyrigg’s advantage.

With three minutes remaining, Rose produced the best goal of the afternoon.

It started when Hoskins won the ball in his own half. He played it down the left line to Adam Nelson, who cut inside and beat his marker before sliding the ball to the unmarked Kierion McGachie, who slammed past the keeper for a great finish.
