Bonnyrigg Rose close in on title triumph

Attacking play by both sides saw loads of early action with openings for Archibald ,Turner and Hoskins just failing as did a Burgh chance to Jamieson put just wide. Before visiting keeper Dodds punched out a 10th minute Turner corner seeing Burgh scramble to get the ball clear.

Ex Bonnyrigg’s Kevin McLeis and Liam McKenna tried their luck as did Kevin Bracks only to find Rose keeper Mike Andrews on form.

However the East Lothianers finally broke the deadlock bang on the half hour mark when a snap shot from Burgh top scorer Sean Jamieson squeezed in off the post beating the unfortunate Andrews into the home net.

Bonnyrigg replied with pressing corners but in 41 minutes a free header to Burgh’s Scott Gibson went straight into Andrews’ arms. A minute later Rose skipper Ross Archibald limped off to be substituted by Kerr Young at the heart of the Rose defence.

Trailing by 1-0 at half time Bonnyrigg needed to find the elusive Musselburgh net with Kerr Young coming closest, smashing a shot against the Burgh crossbar in 53 minutes.

But then another Rose double whammy sank the Burgh as firstly in 57 minutes another Adam Nelson corner this time found the waiting head of Young whose bullet header flew into the Musselburgh net for the equaliser.

A minute later and Alan Horne set up Scott Gray to cross from the left and there was Wayne McIntosh to head home Rose’s second goal to complete the turnaround at 2-1 to Bonnyrigg !

The visitors came back for a spell but Gary Hamilton shot off target and a double McLeish corner attack saw Rose defend well.

McIntosh was substituted for the last 15 minutes by McLaren before Hamilton was booked for a foul on Turner.

From the resultant free kick Dean Hoskins saw his shot take a deflection past keeper Dodds to seal the victory for the top of the Super League Rose.

In the end another great three points for Bonnyrigg Rose, who sit seven points clear of second placed Bo’ness United at the top of the table with six games left to play.
