The Evening News understands that Broxburn Athletic boss Max Christie is one of main the contenders to takeover at New Victoria Park following the sacking of Alan Miller, while the majority of applicants are currently in a job.

The interview process began last night and Star are aiming to have a new boss appointed as soon as possible in order to build for next season. Most of the Newtongrange squad are out of contract at the end of the campaign, so the new man will be tasked with persuading players to stay on.

“I’m pleased with the standard of applicants, it’s a big club and it’s going to be a big job for the new manager,” said president Stan Adams.

“Alan set high standards. I think he took the club as far as he possibly could. We had a lot of good players this season and I think we’ve under achieved. We do have a lot of talented footballers but we haven’t achieved anything at all.”

After successive fourth-place finishes in the Super League, Star look set to finish fifth at best this season after an indifferent campaign. The new boss will be expected to challenge for the title next season.
