Burke: We’ll learn from late leveller

The visitors were still reeling from losing eight first team squad members during the week, but they grabbed a point thanks to former Hearts kid Stephen Husband’s late penalty.

Livi’s Tony Andreu and Marc McNulty had responded to fire the home side in front after Ryan Thomson’s first half effort, but Burke said while there was much good play to focus on, his younger players would learn from the experience.

He said: “I’m very disappointed to give up two points at the end there with a penalty.

“I think the first goal we gave away in the first half was an aberration – they hadn’t had a shot in the game and we’d been in a period of dominance.

“I’ve got a bunch of frustrated players right now because they deserve a lot of credit for managing to get our noses in front and they played well.

“We gave some young lads the chance to come on near the end of a game and I think they’ll have learned a valuable lesson. We have the ball in the corner with a couple of minutes left and we might have shown a little bit more maturity in  keeping it.”

Livi were first to threaten in a half where they enjoyed the majority of possession, with Andreu’s scuffed shot from six yards being held by keeper Michal Hrivnak.

Kyle Jacobs and Iain Russell also came close for the Lions, but Thomson gave the Pars the lead on 22 minutes after nipping in at the near post to stab a cross beyond Andy McNeil.

The start of the second half saw Livi throw everything at the Pars and they got their reward. Jesus Garcia Tena teed up Andreu eight yards out on 54 minutes and the Frenchman finished underneath Hrivnak.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, Tena this time set up Danny Mullen, who flicked it on for fellow sub McNulty to blast into the top corner.

Then Ross Millen twice hit the woodwork for Dunfermline from long range, before Mullen tripped Shaun Byrne in the box and Husband rescued a point from 12 yards.
