Capital duo in perfect shape ahead of KDM Trophy heavyweight duels

Spartans warmed up for tomorrow night's KDM Evolution Trophy last-32 clash with Championship outfit Livingston with a 3-2 win over Annan Athletic.

A brace of penalties from Marc McNulty, and solo effort from Mark Stowe, secured all three points for James Craigen's men at the Vanloq Community Stadium.

Spartans remain fourth in the League Two standings but now quickly turn their attention to tomorrow's visit of the West Lothian side on cup duty.

"It was a bit nervy in the end as we probably should have been a lot more comfortable, but the objective was three points and we got that so I've got to be happy," Craigen said afterwards.

"All the subs did really well when they came on, made an impact and that's what we want. We've got to use a lot of the squad and we'll need that if we want to go and do well this season. We want to make our home ground difficult for teams to come to. Results haven't been good enough this year at home if I'm being honest, but we need to go on a run now.

"Livingston will be a tough game as they're a good side, but we're excited. We know we have a good record against higher league opposition, especially at home, so we've got to embrace that."

Meanwhile, a last-gasp strike from Jack Leitch earned Edinburgh City a 2-1 success over Dumbarton at Meadowbank.

Innes Lawson had given the hosts a tenth-minute lead only for Leighton McIntosh to level 13 minutes before the interval.

But Leitch had the final say with a left-footed effort right at the death as City also prepare for Scottish Challenge Cup action when Championship leaders Partick Thistle travel to the Capital tomorrow night.

Assistant manager Kirk Crichton said: "Absolutely delighted with the three points. The first half we controlled the majority of it so we were a bit disappointed to come in at half-time at 1-1. But we weathered the storm a the start of the second half, defended our box well, and as the game wore I think there was only going to be one winner. I was delighted we kept showing the hunger going forward and we got our rewards for that.

"I think Jack's goal epitomises everything about the team. Jack is a warrior, he goes to the well for us time and time again. He's got that experience and he got the goal, which he deserved. I thought he was outstanding.

"We're excited for Tuesday. These are the games you want, to challenge yourself against the best teams relevant to the level they're playing at so I think it will be a really good game of football."
