Caps must avenge big 
loss to Clan

Edinburgh Capitals will look for instant revenge against Braehead Clan at Murrayfield this evening (face-off 6pm), but will find it tough going after losing 6-1 to the west coast outfit in Glasgow last night. The defeat leaves the Caps rooted to the bottom of ice hockey’s Elite League with seven points from 13 games.

Both teams split the opening period with a pair of power-play goals. Capitals’ player-coach Richard Hartmann gave the visitors the lead in the 8th minute after he got on the end of a Rene Jarolin cross ice pass before Clan man-of-the-match Matt Haywood restored parity scoring from close range which a shot that deflected off the skate of Edinburgh’s Michal Dobron.

Braehead, who controlled the majority of the game throughout, then took charge of the scoreboard as well as the ice, skating to a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes with goals from Matt Hanson and Ash Goldie.

Edinburgh, who lost Slovakian defenceman Michal Benadik to injury during the first 
period, battled hard but Clan’s superiority told in the final ten minutes when they added three further goals through Jade Galbraith, NHL star Drew Miller and Brock McPherson.
