The students started strongly and Martin McCauley in the Threave goal had to react quickly to save a Duncan Black header from a well-flighted Ross Patterson corner in just the second minute.

Both teams attempted to play constructive football on a less than perfect surface, but there were very few scoring chances in the opening half.

The home team brought on Aiden Tait for Connor Docherty at the half-time interval and it was Tait who opened the scoring on 59 minutes when he converted a low cross from Ian Miller after good play down the right wing.

Edinburgh were back on level terms in the 65th minute when an in-swinging corner from Harvey McIntosh deceived McCauley at the near post.

The visitors brought on Calum Murray for the injured Irvine and it was his pass that released Bertie Collins to score and put the students in front on 75 minutes. Both sides had chances in the closing minutes with Andrew Forsyth going close with a header for Threave, but the visitors hung on for victory.
