Kevin Haynes’ men sprung a shock in the last round against top-flight Broxburn Athletic with an impressive 4-0 victory at King’s Park to set up a home quarter-final against Bo’ness United.

Haynes, who took over the reigns from Willie Pearson in February, was on the scoresheet the last time the Jags hosted Bo’ness – a 1-0 success three years ago in the same cup and he is hopeful his side can defy the odds to reach the last four.

“I’m confident that my players are good enough to get a result,” said Haynes. “There’s no pressure on us. If you were to ask ten people who were going to win the game, nine would say Bo’ness would win.

“We played well against Broxburn, we did our homework and knew what they were going to do. We’ve done the same again this round, we’ve got a few reports and we know what Bo’ness are all about. It’s just trying to execute the plan. As a club we know we can do it.”

With several Super League sides sniffing around his players, Haynes has a tough job in retaining his current group for a tilt at promotion next term.

He says a result against one of the Super League’s top clubs in Bo’ness would go a long way to convincing his players to stay put.

He added: “I’ve got five players who are getting multiple offers from Super League teams so the hard bit is trying to convince them to stay when they all getting two or three offers each.

“We’ve got to try and show them that we aren’t far away and try to convince them that they are good enough. It’s just trying to convince them that next season we are going to get it right.”

Elsewhere tonight, Linlithgow Rose host Musselburgh Athletic in the quarter-final of the Fife and Lothians Cup (kick-off 7pm). Newtongrange Star face Penicuik Athletic at New Victoria Park (kick-off 7.15pm).
