Docherty takes inspiration from fellow youth players

Docherty will be in contention for a place as the Lions travel to Ayr United tomorrow, after featuring in league match squads against Thistle and Raith Rovers as well as coming on in Sunday’s cup tie at Hamilton, and is looking to recently promoted youth teammates like Stefan Scougall for motivation.

He said, “It has been unexpected. It just kind of snuck up on me before Partick game because of injuries, but now I’m just trying to work hard and stay in contention for places.

“Seeing Scougall doing well, coming into the side not too long ago and now starting most games is good to see. I’ve obviously played the Partick game, come on against Raith and then again played at the weekend, so it’s good to get a chance and maybe try and improve and see if I can stay in the team.”

Docherty’s debut could not have ended much better for the Lions, as Bollan’s side held out against a threatening Partick Thistle team to snatch a last minute winner, while he started on the bench in a hard fought 1-1 draw with Raith.

Sunday’s 1-0 Ramsdens Cup semi final defeat away to Hamilton was a disappointment, however, and one Docherty – who replaced the injured Kyle Jacobs after 18 minutes – says the players are looking to put behind them.

He said, “We were good for spells at Hamilton and created maybe a couple more chances than them until we started really pushing forward late on. They then had space to come into, but at the end of the day it was a very evenly matched game.”

And after a run of league encounters that has seen Livi win two and draw four of their last six outings, getting a win away to their fellow Second Division opponents from last season is at the front of everyone’s mind.

Docherty said, “It will be tough. They’ll want to take advantage of their home status, and we’ve just got to try and get a win. We had a lot of draws, and we maybe need to start to kill off teams and take advantage of our chances.”
