Dundee United 'a club going places' despite defeat to Hibs in Scottish Cup semi-final says Marc McNulty

Dundee United striker Marc McNulty admits he would consider another spell at Tannadice if he’s not part of Reading boss Veljko Paunović's plans.

The forward joined Micky Mellon’s side in October and, despite Scottish Cup disappointment in the 2-0 defeat to his former club Hibs - McNulty has seen enough to be convinced it is a club on the up.

“I need to go back to Reading I have another year left on my contract so I need to report there at the end of June,” he explained. “I will have a discussion with the manager and then we will see where we are at.

"If the offer is there and the manager at Reading says that my services are no longer wanted down there than I would be happy to have a chat.

“I have loved my time here, I have felt very welcome. That is from Tony, who runs the club, right down to all the staff and the boys. This is a really good club and it is one which is going places. If they wanted to have me back I will definitely be having a chat with the gaffer.”

The Terrors, however, will not be going back to Hampden on May 22, instead facing the two sides above them in the SPFL Premiership table – St Mirren and Motherwell – to complete the season next week, but a seventh place finish is not the only prize left at stake.

The forward added: “It is important for us now to finish on a high, give the fans something to enjoy. There is a lot still to play for, whether it is new contracts or players who want to get in the team or be in the manager’s plans for next season. Every game counts.”

Reflecting on a “frustrating and disappointing day,” in the Scottish Cup defeat to his former side McNulty admitted: “I think Hibs were the better team overall.

“They got a stroke of luck with the second goal which was offside but other than that they were the better team, certainly the more clinical.

“When you are not having a great game and you get decisions like that is it is difficult but I don’t want to take anything away from Hibs."
