East of Scotland: Victory all the sweeter for struggling Ormiston

Saturday’s 2-0 triumph over Borders club Tweedmouth Rangers was just the third time the East Lothian strugglers have registered a win in the East of Scotland League this season and their first three points since the 4-0 win over Burntisland Shipyard on November 19.

Goals from on-loan Preston Athletic duo Sean Lawson and Mark Law – the former’s coming from the penalty spot – proved the difference at Recreation Park as third-bottom Ormi moved five points clear of their opponents.

“It was one that we really needed to win as if they’d beaten us they would have gone above us in the league,” Weir explained. “It was nice to see a happy changing room for once after the full-time whistle as it’s been a long time coming.

“We had a few call-offs in the morning so we were down to the bare bones and I had to be stripped for the bench again.

“Mark and Sean have both done really well since coming in. They’re good lads who give 100 per cent because sometimes when you bring in players on loan that doesn’t always turn out to be the case.

“We’ve got a few long-term injuries so we’ve had to go down the loan route. We’ve had a good relationship with Preston over the course of the season so I’m pleased we’ll have both players until the end of the campaign.

“I just hope we can take some confidence from last week and try go on a bit of a run now. We’ve got Stirling Uni this weekend though so it’s never an easy place to go.”

League leaders Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale returned to winning ways as Grant Munro scored the only goal of the game as the Capital outfit edged past Peebles Rovers at Saughton Enclosure.

Second-placed Heriot-Watt University were impressive 4-1 winners over city rivals Tynecastle – Anton Dowds grabbing a brace and Leith Athletic thrashed Burntisland Shipyard 9-0 at Meadowbank 3G.
