Cummings, older brother of Hibs striker Jason, began his career in Falkirk’s Academy before moving to Livingston in 2011. He won an Under-19 league title with the Lions before going on to make six first-team appearances, scoring once.

The midfielder was an integral part of the Lothian side that reached the William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round last season, going down 2-0 to East Kilbride and missing out on a fifth-round meeting with Celtic.

The 23-year-old is likely to line up against his younger sibling when City host Hibs at Meadowbank in a friendly on Thursday, July 7.

City boss Gary Jardine revealed they had to fend off stiff competition for Cummings’ signature.

“I’m really pleased to bring Dean to the club as I know that other SPFL sides were interested in signing him,” he said. “Dean played a big part in Lothian Thistle Hutchinson Vale’s run in the Scottish Cup last season and he’ll add a real goalscoring threat to the team from the middle of the park. What impressed me most when I met him was his desire to make up for lost time and to make a real impression in the SPFL which is something he has in common with the rest of the squad.”
