Edinburgh City left to rue missed chances in Elgin stalemate

Edinburgh City boss Michael McIndoe felt his side created more than enough opportunities in front of goal to have secured all three points against Elgin City.

The Citizens played out a goalless draw at Borough Briggs but carved out numerous chances as they searched for a winner.

And although they were unable to make the breakthrough, McIndoe was quick to praise his players for their endeavours at both ends of the pitch.

"It was a really good game and very competitive," McIndoe explained. "I thought we were the better team in the first half, some lovely interplay in the final third, even though it was a heavy pitch. We were a little bit disappointed coming in 0-0 at the break, and probably should have been at least one or two up. We had some really good chances, I think probably around seven or eight in the first half - we were probing around the box and that wee bit more guile might have got us that goal.

"We always want to make sure we're a bit more defensively stronger this year, so the clean sheet is good coming up here with it being a long journey. They had a 15-minute spell in the second half that we had to defend for a bit, but we also had three or four really good moves in the second half that I felt we could have went on and won it.

"We want to win every game in this division. We feel we're strong enough and that's not me being arrogant, but I think we've got a good enough squad. Many teams will come up here and lose as they've got a good group who work hard for each other. We just couldn't pick the lock to break them down."

Elsewhere, new Spartans head coach James Craigen saw his side go down 2-0 to leaders Stranraer in his first league game in charge.

The 35-year-old midfielder was confirmed as Dougie Samuel's replacement last weekend but will also continue in a playing capacity. However, he is currently injured and not expected to return for a few more weeks.

Seb Mason and Aaron Healy got the goals for the visitors at the Vanloq Community Stadium as Spartans remain in fourth spot.
