Edinburgh City wary of Spartans in Lowland League race

Edinburgh City manager Gary Jardine is refusing to rule city rivals Spartans out of the Ferrari Packaging Lowland League title race ahead of his team's trip to Gretna tomorrow.

The reigning champions are 13 points ahead of their Ainslie Park adversaries, who have two games in hand.

City drew 1-1 at home to East Kilbride last weekend after Spartans overtook Stirling University with a late 1-0 win, and Jardine remains wary of Dougie Samuel’s men.

“I’ve always felt Spartans are still in it,” he insisted. “I’ve always said it’ll go right to the wire and I still think that’ll be the case.

“There’s no easy game in this league. Gretna is another game that edges us closer to the finale.

“We’ve worked on a few things that weren’t quite right last week. I’ve been pleased with the desire, determination and the heart, we just need to up our quality as we go in to the final stages.”

Whitehill Welfare seek back-to-back league wins when they travel south to take on Dalbeattie Star. Edinburgh University will make it three victories on the bounce if they overcome Cumbernauld Colts at East Peffermill.
