EoS Wrap: Jordan Finnie praised as Strollers progress

Manager Alex Cunningham praised red-hot Jordan Finnie after he fired Civil Service Strollers into South East Challenge Cup fourth round.

Finnie made the difference at a rain-soaked Peffermill 3G in the 75th minute to see off fellow Capital outfit Tynecastle, combining well with his fellow attackers Chris Milligan and Davy Stewart to score the only goal of the game.

The striker has now netted four goals in the last five matches for Strollers and Cunnigham was full of praise for his recent performances.

“Jordan Finnie has hit a purple patch for us,” said Cunningham. “He’s struck up a good partnership with the other strikers up front.

“We are quietly going about our business and getting good results. We don’t set any targets, we go from game to game. It’s all about getting games on and keeping the players happy because the weather hasn’t been ideal. You train during the week and then have nothing to show for it on a Saturday and that’s been very frustrating.”

Tynecastle pressed for an equaliser late on, with Stewart Adams and Haydn Crane going close. Their cause wasn’t helped by the loss of midfielder Dayne Robertson in the first half, who had to go to hospital following a heavy challenge. All hope of an equaliser evaporated when Michael Catlin was sent off late on in the game due to dissent.

Tynie have an East of Scotland League fixture with Ormiston tomorrow night (7.45pm kick-off), subject to a pitch inspection at Saughton Enclosure.

In the only East of Scotland League fixture to survive the weather at the weekend, Graham Buckley won his second match in a row as Craigroyston manager following a 2-1 win at Heriot-Watt-University. Greig Tulloch and Keith Buckley got the goals for the St Mark’s Park side, with Chris Donnelly netting a 21st goal of the season for the students.
