Hibs Ladies striker Sarah Ewens is hoping her match-winning brace against Aberdeen has given boss Chris Roberts some food for thought.

With the match goalless, substitute Ewens stepped off the bench with 25 minutes remaining in the Granite City on Sunday and grabbed a quick-fire double to keep the Hibees five points off the pace of SWPL 1 leaders and reigning champions Glasgow City.

The forward has found game-time hard to come by recently but is hoping her double against the Dons will see her afforded more minutes in the weeks to come.

“It has been frustrating but the front three of Abi (Harrison), Lizzie (Arnot) and Rachel (McLauchlan) have been performing so well in recent games so it’s always going to be hard to get a spot back in the starting XI,” she admitted. “We have such a fantastic squad so there’s always competition for places. You just need to take your chance when it comes.

“I’d obviously like to play as much as possible but we have great depth in the squad which will be needed for the amount of fixtures coming up so hopefully I’ll get my opportunity to help the team to more success.

“I was delighted to have been able to come on and help the team to an important victory. We’d been dominating the game but Aberdeen is always a tough game as they’re really hard to break down. But we managed to get the breakthrough I feel we deserved.”

Elsewhere in SWPL 1, Louise Mason’s strike gave Spartans a 1-0 victory over Forfar Farmington and in SWPL 2, Hearts cruised to a 7-0 win over Inverness City. Hutchison Vale went down 3-0 to Buchan.
