Ex-skipper returns as new gaffer at Welfare

Whitehill Welfare have wasted little time in replacing out-going manager Neil Janczyk.

Janczyk handed his resignation to officials last week with the club thanking the former Hearts midfielder for his efforts during “exceptionally challenging circumstances”.

Scott Gallacher took charge of the club short term and was at the helm at the weekend when Welfare hosted Penicuik.

Sadly that game had to be abandoned following a serious injury to Cuikie’s Liam O’Donnell.

Following the game Whitehill moved to get their man and were “delighted” this week to confirm Andrew Kidd as the new first team manager.

A club statement said: “The former club captain has tonight (Sunday) agreed terms as first team manager and rejoins the club from Sandys AFC.

“‘Kiddo’ will be joined by Steven McCulloch and Paul Parkin while Scott Gallacher has left the club.

“We thank Scott for his efforts since the summer and wish him all the best for the future.”

Kidd is considered one of Welfare’s greatest players in recent times.

He was the club’s longest serving player and captain before deciding to make the move to the junior ranks and join Bonnyrigg Rose a couple of seasons ago.

Welfare will also host its AGM this evening (Thursday) via Zoom.

A club official added: “More than ever, the club needs more people to get involved and there will be various committee positions to be filled as some existing members will be stepping down due to changes in personal circumstances meaning they can no longer commit the necessary time to their roles.” Visit www.whitehillwelfare.co.uk
