Striker Katie Lockwood has insisted that fans ‘haven’t seen the best of Hearts yet’ after their 5-1 win over Motherwell.

The Jam Tarts cruised to another big victory on the weekend as they demolished Motherwell in sensational fashion. Their performance throughout was highly impressive and it is now becoming commonplace for Hearts this campaign. Sunday’s fixture was the third time this season that Hearts have won by four goals or more with the dismantling of Hamilton and Partick Thistle also falling within that remit. However, Lockwood believes Hearts can only continue to improve as the season progresses as they look to close the gap on the top three.

“I don’t think you have seen the best of us yet,” she told the Edinburgh Evening News. “We still need to get the defensive part right and we need to start dominating a little more. Today, it could have been six, seven or maybe even 10 with the chances we are missing. We just need to keep going and hopefully, in the second half of the season, they will start going in.”

Lockwood was one of the star performers against Motherwell with the attacker getting two goals and an assist during the win. The opener was a wonderful first-time finish beyond the ‘keeper before she blasted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 4-1. After now taking her tally up to five so far this campaign, Lockwood challenges her side to perform like they did on Sunday on a more consistent basis.

“The last few weeks I have been struggling to get involved and it’s nice when it all comes together,” she added. “In the last few weeks, we have got the attacking part right, we just need to focus on the defending and the little small details that nullify that.

“It was a great ball over the top from Esther Morgan [for the opener], she saw me and the ‘keeper come out so I just put it over the top of her. I was happy to see it go in.

“We just need to keep doing this week in, week out now. We just need to find some consistency and keep doing it.”
