Football: Carnie and Twaddle quit Whitehill

The Whitehill Welfare management team of Grant Carnie and Kevin Twaddle have resigned, citing that “the club wanted to go in a different direction from us” as the reason.

Carnie took over the Whitehill hot-seat in mid- January and led the Rosewell club on a 4-game unbeaten run to finish the season in third position in the Central Taxis Premier Division. Only last week Whitehill beat Edinburgh City 2-0 to lift the East of Scotland League cup, their first trophy in four seasons.

However, Carnie and Twaddle have decided that their future does not lie with Whitehill at Ferguson Park. Twaddle said: “Grant and me had a focus and an aim but unfortunately the club did not want to go in that direction.

“Whitehill has been fantastic in the time we have been there and we have met a lot of fabulous people. We are disappointed with the circumstances in which we leave but we want to be at a club where we can express ourselves.”

Carnie added: “It was good to go on that long unbeaten run, finish third in the Premier Division and then win the League Cup. I enjoyed every minute of being in the front line and we were looking forward to the challenge of next season but that’s football and we now move on.”

Derek Waterson, the Whitehill chairman, said: “It is with great reluctance that we have accepted the resignations of our management team.

“We would like to thank them for their contributions while they have been here, especially in winning our first trophy for several seasons.

“We have a committee meeting tomorrow night at which we will discuss the vacant manager’s position.”
