The 51-year-old is at the national team headquarters helping coach Gordon Strachan and his assistants, Mark McGhee and Andy Watson. He is working with the squad on an informal basis and joined in training yesterday and today.

McAllister won 59 Scotland caps and captained his country at the 1996 European Championship. For the moment he is continuing his development as a coach alongside Strachan, his long-term friend from their days playing for Scotland and for English clubs Leeds United and Coventry City.

It is not yet known if McAllister will stay involved with Scotland long-term. His last official coaching position was at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers, a role which ended when Rodgers was sacked in October 2015. McAllister still works as an ambassador for the Anfield club.
