Edinburgh City exited the William Hill Scottish Cup without a whimper following a 5-0 defeat to Premiership strugglers Hamilton Accies.

The hosts had put the match to bed by the end of the first half at the Fountain of Youth Stadium, Andy Dales notching the opener with a downward header in the 22nd minute. The South Lanarkshire men doubled their lead five minutes later through a Scott McMann drive from outside the box.

Brian Rice’s men sealed their place in the fifth round right on the stroke of half-time, former Hibs midfielder Scott Martin’s effort from 20 yards wrong-footing goalkeeper Alan Martin after the ball had taken a deflection off the unfortunate Conrad Balatoni.

Substitute Andy Winter added a fourth with a well-placed finish with ten minutes remaining before Mickel Miller rounded off a comfortable afternoon for Accies.

The League Two title hopefuls failed to test Accies No.1 Owain Fon Williams and will now turn their attentions to next weekend’s trip to Stenhousemuir.

Hamilton Accies: Fon Williams, McGowan (Collar 34), McMann (Hunt 46), Fjortoft, Oakley, Alston, Miller, Gogic, Easton, Martin, Dales (Winter 63). Subs: Gourlay, Hunt, Davies, Smith, Ogkmpoe.
