@k_hall90: “Such a weird one with Laff. The talisman that Hearts needed at the time. A great goalscoring record last year, yet his all-round contribution in certain games was worryingly non-existent. Undoubtedly a big game player, though & I’m pretty gutted to be losing him. Must replace.”

Kirsten Kenneway: “Sad to see him go but he has been wanting to go to rangers for a while now. Good luck to him, don’t go scoring goals against us!”

@CraigPringle1: “Don’t want to sound overly negative about losing Lafferty but I reckon that sort of loss means we’re realistically only on for the double and not the treble this season”

Some were angry and/or disappointed:

Michael Burgess: “Selling to one of your nearest rivals AGAIN!!!! When will non weegie teams learn it always comes back to bite you. Will Hearts reveal the fee & payment schedule (if one), or have we succumbed to typical Sevco selling pressure? Totally p****d off with the player after all Hearts done, helping him with his personal off-field problems, another sad day for Scottish football!!!”

William Thorburn: “Well done weaken us to strengthen them, not why we saved the club!”

@DavieHanson180: “Only Hearts could sell their top goalscorer to a league rival while sitting top of the league, We’re All pumping money into the club we deserve all the details,”

@Nevans1874: “Didn’t like Kyle lafferty anyway”

@JuanDaMan10: “So Kyle Lafferty being grateful to Hearts standing by him didn’t last too long.”

Many were understanding:

@McNaughton1213: “Better players than Kyle Lafferty have left Hearts before and we still kept going.”

@maroonspecs: “Sorry to see Kyle Lafferty leave, especially for them, but we’ve lost more important players in the past and coped just fine. Hope for his sake it turns out to be the right move (and not necessarily from an on-field perspective). Thanks for the good times, Kyle.”

Craig Beanie Dougal: ”He wanted to go so why keep a player who wants to move on ! We will cope without him Just hope the transfer money is decent.”

Brian McLean: “Tbf I think even in his wildest dreams he would never have thought Rangers would come in for him again. That’s why he said he would stay at Hearts. Fair play to him, but I hope we’ve put a clause in that he can’t play against us this season. Good luck big man and thanks”

William Sutherland: “Better going now if transfer fee is paid upfront. Give us time to sort out a replacement. Good luck to him and wish him well.”

Simon Withers: “Kyle Lafferty was good for Hearts and Hearts were good for Kyle Lafferty! Ann Budge and Craig Levein will have done their best by Hearts and life moves on! Better players than Kyle Lafferty have left hearts,we’ll be fine!”

Donnie MacKenzie: “Good Luck Kyle we had a Laff buddy you scored in all the right angles ... HHGH”

@VicWeddell: “As long as the fee is appropriate and we have mitigated being a striker short I’m ok with this under the circumstances. However......”

@HeartsRant: “Very disappointed to see Lafferty depart, but it was always on the cards from the moment his boyhood club came in for him. I sincerely hope the club held out for reasonable £ though. Otherwise the decision to sell is questionable. Thanks to the big man for the memorable goals.”

Some fans are already looking to the future:

@RFBorthwick: “Right let’s get big Davie Vanecek in pronto then. Bye @laffk10, you were sound.”

Danny Mitchell: “Good luck Kyle and thanks for the big game goals ♥️ forever in our Hearts but we move on and hopefully get the big Czech striker in now”

Devan Mac An Fhaoitigh: “Lawrence Shankland”

David Black: “We will replace KL with ease. The over reaction to him is quite unbelievable. He was good in some games, he scored some great goals in those games, but the majority of the time he did nothing. Just look at the stats re his goals. A good few from free kicks and penalties, he is not a natural goalscorer, he had no assists... We don’t need his replacement to score 19 goals, but if the team score more as a result of better link up play, better lay offs and more assists, we will be in a better place. KL was a good signing, nothing more nothing less.”
