Hearts keen to reward huge travelling support with cup win

Uche Ikpeazu can't wait to play in front of almost 5000 Hearts fans at East End Park

Almost 5000 Jambos will descend on East End Park this afternoon as the buoyant Tynecastle side bid to continue their strong start to the season away to Dunfermline Athletic. Ikpeazu believes the backing of so many fans will help give Hearts an extra edge against their in-form Championship hosts.

“I heard we’ve sold out the away end, which is great,” said the former Cambridge United striker. “That’s what we need. The support that we’ve had so far has really helped the team kick on. It’s important for the team and for the club. I haven’t played in front of an away support that size so it’s going to be good. Hopefully, we can go and get the result for the fans.”

Although Hearts will be favourites after winning their last four matches in all competitions, Dunfermline go into today’s second-round tie having won six of their seven competitive games this season. The Tynecastle side are braced for a tricky test in Fife.

“Dunfermline have done well so far,” said Ikpeazu. “They won their four Betfred Cup group games and they’ve had a decent start to the season so we can’t go there thinking we’re just going to turn up and beat them. None of the lads here are getting carried away – we’re just working hard and doing our job.

“We’re looking forward to it and hopefully we can get a positive result.”
