Hearts kid Angus Beith forced to undergo more surgery

Highly-rated midfielder Angus Beith has suffered a setback in his bid to establish himself in Hearts' first team after being forced to undergo another hip operation.

The 20-year-old, who has been restricted to just one appearance for the club so far, spoke to the Evening News recently about his optimism for the campaign ahead after having most of last season written off 
following a prolonged recovery from hip surgery he underwent last summer.

Beith got some welcome game time under his belt during a loan spell at Stenhousemuir towards the end of last season. However, his hopes of a fresh start and an uninterrupted pre-season this term have been dashed after his hip problem flared up again last week. The academy graduate went under the surgeon’s knife on Friday and is not expected to be available until late August at the earliest.

“Angus has struggled a bit with his hip but at least we’ve finally got to the bottom of what it was,” said head coach Robbie Neilson. “The surgeon operated on it on Friday and is happy with how things have cleared up. He’s going to be about six to eight weeks before he’s back fully fit.

“It’s disappointing because he’s a big prospect for us but that’s part of being a footballer. You have to accept that there will be injuries and highs and lows, but he’s come through it really well so far and hopefully there’s light at the end of the tunnel now that we’ve finally figured out what’s going on.”

Robbie Muirhead and Morgaro Gomis sat out Saturday’s friendly at Cowdenbeath with a thigh strain and back spasms respectively, but both are expected to be fit for the second leg of the Europa League first qualifying round tie against FC Infonet in Estonia on Wednesday.
