Hearts trial for Polish defender Krystian Nowak

The 22-year-old free agent played in a closed-door bounce match at the weekend and looked assured in front of the Hearts coaching staff.

Nowak, a Poland Under-21 internationalist, who stands 6ft 2in tall, left Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala in his homeland at the end of last season after his contract was not renewed.

He is keen to continue his career in Britain if possible but must wait to learn whether he has done enough to earn a contract at Tynecastle.

Following Jordan McGhee’s season-long loan move to Middlesbrough, Hearts want another defender to provide cover ahead of the new league campaign.

German defender Marcel Appiah was recently on trial at Riccarton but was not offered a contract.
