Focus remains on Premiership objectives but future planning at Hearts and Hibs will be underway across both sides of Edinburgh.
Summer rumours have already started at Hearts with French midfielder Tom Renaud on their radar. St Johnstone winger Josh McPake has signed a pre-contract at Tynecastle as they dip into the domestic market again, like they have with Blair Spittal, Alan Forrest, James Penrice and Yan Dhanda in recent seasons.
Hibs also haven’t been shy in shopping local with Jamie McGrath and Josh Mulligan two of their top stars, arriving from Aberdeen and Dundee respectively. With players at other clubs coming out of contract, with some holding compensation factors, here are 13 free agent candidates Hearts and Hibs could consider if they are looking to strengthen their ranks.

9. Liam Kelly (Rangers)
Plenty of experience as Motherwell captain and played plenty with Livingston. Served as a reliable back-up at Rangers and if a touch more games could be offered, adds to the UEFA quota. Rumours of a new Ibrox deal but nothing official. Until then, I guess... | SNS Group

10. Alfie Stewart (Aberdeen)
Likely to leave Aberdeen this summer having netted eight goals and nine assists for Inverness who seem bound to win the League One title, from a variety of midfield positions. Still only 19, while not likely to be straight into first team, could you speculate to accumulate on potential? | SNS Group

11. Kieran Ngwenya (Dunfermline Athletic)
Linked with Premiership sides this week amid performances at the Pars. A left-back, slowly started showing why Aberdeen rated him highly. | Local Library

12. Jon McCracken (Dundee)
Similar argument to Kelly only he has played a full season, and well, for Dundee. | SNS Group
