The 17-year-old is no stranger to being touted with a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs having been linked with AC Milan and Manchester City.

At the end of last year, a deal was discussed with the current Premier League champions when members of Hearts’ staff travelled to Manchester to examine links between the clubs.

There has also been reported interest from Celtic.

Bayern have taken a keen interest in young Scottish talent.

The five-time Champions League winners signed Celtic teenager Liam Morrison last summer with the centre-back playing regularly for the club’s U17 side. They have also been linked with a move for Parkhead winger Barry Hepburn this week.

Hickey has played 30 times this season following his rise to stardom as a 16-year-old in the 2019 Scottish Cup final where he put in a starring display up against James Forrest.

This season the teenager has shown his maturity, composure and versatility in a struggling side and was included in The Guardian’s 60 best young talents in world football back in October.

He has played at centre-back, left-back, right-back and wing-back, while his attitude has earned praise from boss Daniel Stendel.

Not long after the German took over he pinpointed Hickey’s bravery and said it was something which more experienced team-mates could learn from.
