Calvin Miller explains why he had to join Hearts after a six-figure transfer from Falkirk
The winger has signed a three-year deal at Tynecastle
As one of the Scottish Premiership’s most creative talents, Calvin Miller is joining Hearts with a notable pedigree. Nine goals and 11 assists at Falkirk this season marked him out as a genuine asset and one of the top flight’s most dangerous players. There was even talk of a Scotland call-up ahead of the World Cup as observers across the country marvelled at the winger’s wizardry.
Hearts supporters can look forward to admiring him from closer range next season. Miller, 28, has signed a three-year deal at Tynecastle Park aiming to participate in a Premiership title challenge and sample European competition. He came through the Celtic youth academy and made a first-team breakthrough in 2016 before loans at Dundee and Ayr United. Then came spells in England with Harrogate Town, Notts County and Chesterfield.
Miller briefly joined Morton in 2023 before former Celtic scout John McGlynn lured him to Falkirk later that year. He flourished in dark blue by helping the club achieve back-to-back promotions to jump from League One to the Premiership. Hearts will hope they have signed a so-called late bloomer in football, one who can continue his prosperity in maroon.
“I'm buzzing,” said Miller when speaking to Hearts TV about his six-figure transfer. “It's been in a pipeline for a while, so I'm just glad that I'm finally here and getting the deal all signed. First of all, Hearts are a massive club and I think you've seen what they've done last season. Straight away, everyone wants to be a part of that.”
With Champions League qualifiers looming in addition to a potentially exciting league campaign, Miller explained that he had to make the switch to Tynecastle. “When I heard the interest was there, I was dying to make the move happen,” he added. “They are playing in Europe this year as well, so I'd love to get myself in amongst that. I'm thankful to Falkirk because they essentially got my career back on track. The gaffer there, they helped me through thick and thin and every season was a success, so I'm hoping to just continue that success, that kind of form that I had at Falkirk and getting all the goals and assists and some even silverware.
“I hope to come here and try and achieve all that as well and proper progress. I like to score goals and set up goals and I think that's just all I care about is if I can contribute to the team and, like you said, I think I've been doing that the last three seasons so I just want to continue that form and keep progressing and now that this club's in Europe it would be unbelievable if I could go and chip in, doing that in the bigger stage.
“Who doesn't want to play in Europe? You get a chance in the Champions League qualifiers to then go and progress and then if not then it's Europa League and that's a big stage. That's where you can go and make a name for yourself and the club can go and make a name for itself as well and I'm just dying to get started.”
