@maroonspecs: “Re: Neilson. There will always be a vocal minority (and it is a minority) of Hearts fans who will never get past the Hibs cup exit in 2016 or Birkirkara. I don't get it personally, but that's their right as fans. The vast majority of us will welcome him back with open arms.”

@bruciehmfc: “Neilson never done himself any favours with his “money spinner’ comments but he was the last manager to have us playing decent football and got us in to Europe! Will back him all the way!”

@HeartsRant: “Won the Championship (twice). Took Heart of Midlothian into €. Cup winner as a player. Returns as an even better manager. Welcome home, Robbie Neilson. Tough luck, @DundeeUnitedFC.”

@clernauskis:“Not for me. Championship season the football was great. Prem? Eye bleeding at times. Utd fans seem to be saying the same.1 win in 6 v Hibs. Birkirkara! Inmy opinion its a Tommy Wright style appointment although he would have been free.”

@blairdin: “I think we're lacking class by not thanking Daniel Stendel. He was an exciting manager and the first to defer wages when asked. Robbie is a sensible, solid appointment given the "interesting" Scottish football times we're embroiled in, but acknowledge Stendel's efforts first.”

@SuperStevoe: “Let's all pretend the last 6 years didn't happen. Welcome Robbie Neilson!”

@robbiecoull89: “We should put in a bid for Shankland anaw. No point resting on our laurels with this s***housery.”

@perthtopaisley: “As much as I’d be pleased with Robbie, I’m feeling a bit gutted for Stendel. Imagine Hearts and Barnsley going through all that hassle in order for him to be appointed, the job he was brought to do taken away from him and despite not officially leaving, another gaffer appointed.”

@NeilCockburn: “If we now stay up and they stay down it'll objectively be the greatest patter move in Scottish football history.”

@Lewis_McKxnzie: “Levein back to Dundee United and the Scottish football pandemic patter will have peaked.”

@BurnieHearts: “Time to get behind the only guy to have gave us any joy over the last 6 or so years.”

@meestah_sahmon: “Things Neilson will have to do to win over the noisy minority that were against him last time out; Pump Hibs every time we play them. The end.”

@FitbaMadLad: “Absolutely buzzing with this.”

@WeeAnderson88: “Some of the EPL games have been honking since the return. Would have rather watched Hearts boardroom V Dundee Utd boardroom today.”

@MarcCairnie: “A nice guy but I’m not convinced we couldn’t have gone for a more attack minded manager. Having watched United games I wasn’t that impressed, it was Shankland that made a huge difference.”

@Benm501: “I hope Hearts offered Dundee United a pre-season friendly at least.”

@jamiekborthwick: “I'm surprised Hearts were able to get him, but not surprised it's who they went for. Great record during his first spell in charge, and his relentless work ethic hasn't been forgotten at Tynecastle. Surprised no official mention of Daniel Stendel. The German had been working without pay since April but, when Hearts were officially relegated, his contract was no longer valid so not officially an employee. But he seemed interested in talks over staying.”

@JamboFanTV: “It appears Robbie Neilson is the new manager. No point in fighting over it. Get behind the new gaffer. Fingers crossed he gives the younger players a chance to show what they have in their locker.”

@maroonspecs: “Tonight's developments are very much welcome but not without a tinge of regret about what could have been for this man. "Right man, wrong time" has become a bit of a cliche but it's true. In more favourable circumstances, Daniel Stendel would've been a great appointment for us. Even then, football is filled with sliding doors moments and Stendel's was certainly persisting with Pereira in goals. Had he dropped him after the St Johnstone game, he might've still had a valid contract with the club. A likeable figure nonetheless and I wish him all the best.”

@McIverTheMark: “The moment he left, I said I didn't think we'd eclipse what he achieved with us. In reality, we never achieved ANYTHING close to what he did. Was fully behind him before and, somehow, even more behind him now.”

@DavetheHatman: “Buzzing. It's been all downhill since he left us in 2nd place. I'm that overjoyed if the appointed Craig as DOF I wouldn't even be that bothered.”

@AldoScrim89: “Never a dull moment. Removing his club connections for a minute, he knows the championship and how to get out of it... if that's where we ultimately end up playing, it makes footballing sense.”

@ohahgrantona: “Boring boring football negative manager I hope I'm wrong but can't see it. The only good thing about the appointment is we now have focused on football. What's the point in now going for a DOF why didn't we do that first??”

@ecosseguillaume: “Delighted! Was gutted when he left last time with us sitting 2nd in league after promotion and Europe prior. It’s been disastrous since. Feel really sorry for Stendel, though...”

@Blairmesser: “There were some abject displays towards the end of his tenure (Hamilton away 3-3 draw for example) and of course the money spinner/Birkirkara loss but if he can replicate his first spell or better, It’s a shrewd move. In Robbie we trust.”

@Dico22: “Wow. Didn’t see that coming. Swift actions. No Protracted negotiations played out in the papers. Proven manager at Championship and Premiership level. Does have a good Squad base to work with. Lets unite further behind him.”

@wandywatson: “Didn’t want him to leave. The moaners will soon return. Did play some fairly drab stuff at times and always defended against the teams he considered a challenge. We’ll soon find out I guess.”

@bobbypringle1: “Advocates of Stendel are literally projecting on a hunch. I suspect he may be a right appointment at the wrong time but the St Mirren result was a severe kick to the stones. Championship full of such games so I’ll run with Robbie who has already proved much more.”

@DrewKinross: “A great appointment. If we’re in the Championship then he’s a pair of safe hands. I think people forget that we finished third and were second when he left. The Hibs Cup game overshadowed too much of his excellent work. Ironic that one of his first games could be the semi final!”

@lauriedunsire: “What a whirlwind day. Did I think it was time for a change when Robbie left? Yes. Am I pleased that he's back? Also yes. Got to remember how young he was for a manager back then & still did very well for us. I do feel for Stendel, just not the right timing. Wish him all the best.”
