Ex-Hearts ace Don Cowie retires and joins Premiership club's coaching staff

Former Hearts midfielder Don Cowie has retired from playing and moved into a coaching role at Ross County.
The Staggies announced a restructure which has seen Stuart Kettlewell become the team’s sole manager with Steven Ferguson, who had been acting as co-head coach, now the club’s chief executive.

Hide AdIt has resulted in movement within the coaching staff. Richie Brittain is the new assistant manager and Cowie has taken up a permanent role as first-team coach.
The 37-year-old had returned to action prior to the football’s shutdown, playing nine games on the bounce, having not played this season due to injury.
Cowie, who earned 10 caps for Scotland, spent two-and-a-half seasons at Hearts, signing in February 2016 and helping the club finish third in their return to the Scottish Premiership.
He made 84 appearances, scoring five goals, including one in a 4-1 defeat of Rangers and the only goal in a Scottish Cup Edinburgh derby with Hibs.

Hide AdThe midfielder, who was a popular figure amongst team-mates and staff at Tynecastle, left to return to Ross County in August 2018, joining the club where he started his career.
It was a career which took in Highland rivals Inverness CT before a move to England to join Watford, followed by spells at Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic.
At Cardiff, he helped the side win the English Championship in 2013 allowing him to experience Premier League football.
On his return to the Staggies, he won the Championship and Challenge Cup in 2019.
