Fans of German club SV Meppen launch petition to get Daniel Stendel appointed manager

Daniel Stendel is wanted by fans of SV Meppen.

Fans of the German club SV Meppen have launched an online petition to get Daniel Stendel appointed manager following his Hearts exit.

A group of supporters want him to replace Christian Neidhart, who is expected to join Rot-Weiss Essen, and are urging the Meppen board to move quickly.

Stendel played for the Lower Saxony club during the 1997/98 season and was hugely popular, scoring 13 goals in 34 games. They are now in Germany’s third division.

After Robbie Neilson replaced Stendel at Tynecastle Park, Meppen supporters are calling for their board to appoint the German coach as soon as possible.

The petition read: “Dear board of SV Meppen 1912 eV,

“The news that Christian Neidhart will no longer by a coach at SV Meppen 1912 eV for the new season but instead will switch to a more traditional club has left a big hole in the hearts of Meppen fans.

“After all, Christian has led the club into the top half of the third division in his seven years, performed miracles with little money, and was always close to the fans and the people of Emsland.

“Many people in Emsland and beyond are very concerned about SV Meppen 1912 eV.

“Dear Daniel, in this situation we need you, because the perfect solution is already on the silver plate: Daniel Stendel has to become the new trainer in Meppen!

“Throw all other application documents in the bin, get the phone out and talk to each other. I’m sure this love relationship is just waiting to be refreshed.

“There are many good reasons: Daniel already knows SV Meppen very well. He is an incredibly personable guy who likes to have a drink with the fans.

“In his previous coaching positions, he has already shown that he can develop young players and perform small miracles (Barnsley).

“He likes enthusiastic and offensive football. Daniel fits into Meppen. Meppen fits Daniel.”
