Former Hearts defender Jimmy Dunne scored on his Premier League debut for Burnley this afternoon.

The Irishman, making only his second start for the Clarets after his midweek appearance in the Carabao Cup win over Sheffield United, headed past Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the 71st minute of his maiden game in the English top flight.

However, the 22-year-old centre-half could not prevent Burnley succumbing to a 4-2 defeat at the King Power Stadium in their opening fixture of the campaign.

Dunne spent the first half of the 2018-19 season on loan at Hearts, making 14 appearances in maroon and scoring twice.

The centre-back won his first Republic of Ireland call-up while at Tynecastle before an ankle injury struck towards the end of November.

He subsequently spent time on loan at Sunderland and Fleetwood Town but is now in Sean Dyche’s first team plans at Turf Moor.
