The former Hearts star will undergo surgery in the coming days and the Serie A side are unsure he’ll return this campaign.

The summer signing has played 12 times for the club from northern Italy, whom he joined for a fee of around £1.5 million, though he hasn’t featured since receiving a harsh red card in a February draw with Sassuolo.

Though there have been calls for him to receive Scotland recognition, the left-back sees his path to the national team blocked by English Premier League stars Andrew Robertson and Kieran Tierney along with Celtic defender Greg Taylor.

Hickey excelled at Tynecastle despite playing for the worst team in the Scottish Premiership last term. He contributed significantly to the few high hopes Hearts enjoyed, including notching a goal and an assist in a pair of victories over Hibs at Easter Road.
