Former Hearts star in summer transfer as ex Jambos skipper wins signature race after 'number of other offers'

The former Hearts attacked has made a switch to another Premiership team.

A former Hearts star has linked up with an ex-Jambos skipper as he moves to another Premiership club after leaving Tynecastle.

Alan Forrest departed Gorgie at the end of last season at the conclusion of his contract. He has been weighing up his options since with various avenues in England and Scotland available to him after a four-year stint in maroon where he scored 14 goals with seven assists from 147 matches. Dundee have now signed him on a deal that could extend until the summer of 2029.

It is former Hearts captain Steven Pressley’s second season as head coach after a promising first term at Dens Park and he has played a patient game to convince Forrest that Tayside is his best option. He now links up at Dundee amid their Premier Sports Cup campaign and ahead of the league season beginning next month. Forrest comes to the Dark Blues with vast experience having racked up over 200 appearances for Ayr United and then catching Hearts attention with form at Livingston.

Why have Dundee signed Alan Forrest?

Pressley said of the move: “We’ve been monitoring Alan’s situation for a while and it’s excellent to be able to bring him to Dundee. He has all the attributes we were looking for in his position, like his one-to-one ability, delivery of crosses, and ball-carrying, and he is very hard-working against the ball.

“Like all of our signings so far this summer, Alan had plenty of options to consider and it’s great for us that he saw Dundee as a good fit for him. Alan is someone who knows the Scottish game very well. He’s performed well at this level for a number of years, and we believe he still has a lot to give.”

Forrest added: “As soon as Dundee were interested, I thought it was a good fit for me. The way they played last year, they were a match for any team in the league so I’m looking forward to getting started.

Why has Alan Forrest joined Dundee?

“Whether it’s helping off the ball or creating and scoring goals, I want to affect games as much as I can. Obviously the competitive games have already started so I’m looking forward to getting into it straight away.”

A club statement adds: “Dundee Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Alan Forrest on a two-year deal, with an option for a third year. The winger most recently played for Heart of Midlothian, leaving upon the expiration of his contract last month. 29-year-old Forrest has also played for Livingston and Ayr United, where he came through the academy and was the club’s youngest goalscoring after coming off the bench for his debut and finding the net in a Challenge Cup match against Queen’s Park.

“The former Scotland U21 international has chosen to join the Dark Blues despite a number of other offers across Scotland and England. Everyone at Dundee Football Club is delighted to welcome Alan and wishes him all the best for his time at the club.”
