Hearts fans, and former players, have expressed their delight over the return of Jim Jefferies to the club.

It was announced on Wednesday morning that Tynecastle legend had been appointed advisor to the board of directors in a six months, part-time role.

Jefferies is most fondly remembered for bringing silverware back to the club for the first time in 36 years when he led the side to the 1998 Scottish Cup.

In his second spell he guided the team into Europe and put up a short-lived title challenge.

Jefferies has left his role as sporting director at Edinburgh City to take up his new position as Hearts postpone their own search for a sporting director.

He will work closesly with Ann Budge and the board, as well as manager Robbie Neilson with regards to recruitment.

@ElManthorpo: “Good move. The board needs the kind of expertise that JJ can offer. I'd give him a long term place on the board (if he wanted it). Even when a Sporting Director comes in.”
