Hearts 2-1 Hibs (AET): Boyce nets winner from penalty spot as Hearts reach final

Two penalties defined this Scottish Cup semi-final encounter as Liam Boyce netted the winner from the spot just minutes after Kevin Nisbet had hit the bar with a penalty of his own.

The first half of the match was characteristically full-blooded with little in the way of clear-cut chances, with Craig Gordon’s fine save from Nisbet keeping the scores level at the interval.

But Craig Wighton nodded Hearts into the lead from Olly Lee’s cross early in the second half only for Christian Doidge to head Hibs level seven minutes later.

Both teams searched for a winner in ordinary time but had to wait until the second half of extra time for things to start getting interesting.

When Joe Newell hit the deck in the box under a challenge from Mihai Popescu and referee Willie Collum pointed to the spot, Nisbet stepped up with the chance to put Hibs in front.

But the striker smacked his spot-kick off the cross bar and moments later, Boyce placed the ball on the spot after Aidy White was fouled by Paul McGinn and succeeded where his opposite number had failed in hitting the back of the net.

Hibs searched in vain for a second equaliser but Hearts held onto reach the Scottish Cup final where they will face Aberdeen or Celtic.
