Hearts and Edinburgh City to find out fixture list as SPFL reveal release date

The Capital duo will have to wait until the middle of October to get their league season under way

Hearts and Edinburgh City will find out the fixture list for the forthcoming season on Wednesday.

The SPFL have confirmed the 2020/21 Championship, League One and League Two fixtures will be revealed at 2pm live on Sky Sports.

Monday’s independent arbitration panel verdict confirmed that Hearts’ relegation from the Premiership stands following the SPFL’s resolution to terminate the 2019/20 season on a points per game basis.

With league reconstruction failing twice, the Tynecastle club, like Edinburgh City, will have to wait until the weekend of 17 October to get their league campaign underway.

The truncated season will see the clubs play just 27 league fixtures instead of the usual 36.

City will be aiming to put up another title challenge under James McDonagh after last season’s League Two title tilt faltered before the shutdown with Cove Rangers wining promotion.

Across the Capital, under the management of Robbie Neilson, Hearts will seek an instant return to the Premiership, as they did under the same manager in the 2014/15 season with a record points total.

The aim is for the team to undertake an eight-week pre-season programme with a return to training in early August.

Hearts and Edinburgh City will be back in action at the start of October in the Betfred Cup with the first round of games in the group stage scheduled for Tuesday the 6th.

The four fixtures will be completed by Saturday, 14 November, a date which, along with one in October, clashes with international fixtures.

It is set to be a hectic first couple of months of football for Hearts with the Scottish Cup semi final due to be played during the Betfred Cup group stage run.

Hearts and Hibs will meet at Hampden Park on either Saturday, 31 October or Sunday, 1 November.
