Hearts announce Champions League squad as four new signings miss out on Sturm Graz clash

Hearts have revealed who will play for them in Champions League second round qualifiers this month.

Hearts have unveiled their Champions League squad as Wouter Vrancken takes a 22-man squad with him into second round qualifiers versus Sturm Graz.

Nine senior players are omitted from the squad including four summer signings. New recruit Beau Reus is omitted after the goalkeeper joined on Friday while winger Josh McPake and centre-back MJ Kamson-Kamara are also omitted alongside Amadou Ba-Sy. Sander Kartum, Yan Dhanda and Elton Kabangu miss out while injured stars Craig Halkett, Finlay Pollock and Ageu are out.

Alexander Schwolow remains the likely option between the sticks despite agreeing a deal to join Mainz in August. Other summer signings like Calvin Miller, Tom Renaud, Sabri Guendouz and Malachi Fagan-Walcott do make the cut for matches that take place away from home on July 21 and then at Tynecastle on July 28.

Why has Beau Reus signed for Hearts

Speaking on his move to Hearts, Reus told club media: “I'm so excited. We took our time, but we made the right decision. I am so happy to be here. We had a great season last year at Beveren . The last four years were nice. A step higher up now, so yeah, I'm really happy to be here. Of course, I'm glad to have the four years in Beveren behind me. I think mygrowth there is really big. If you see as a person, I came in like a kid and I left as a grown man.

“So I'm really happy with this four years. Now is the time for the big league. I want to show myself here. I think if you see the club, what you guys reached last year, I think it's wonderful. I hope we can do the same this year and maybe better.

“ I can enjoy so much of this and I can't wait to see Tynecastle it's full. I did some research, of course, because you want to know where you end. We saw a lot of positive things. We saw also how you guys played and everything. I think I'm really happy to be here. If I see the stadium, if I see the fans, yeah, I'm so happy to be here and show myself. Can't wait to start and hopefully it will be soon.”
